POGGIO TREVVALLE, Campagnatico

Thoroughly fed up with their tractors and farm machinery continually being stolen by the local mafia, ransomed, and then stolen yet again, Neopolitans Umberto and Bernardo Valle headed north to seek a less stressful existence in the wine business.

There were 6ha under production when they purchased the estate in 1998 and they now have a manageable and organically farmed 13ha (of which 11ha are sangiovese), most of which was planted in the year 2000. Meanwhile, the tractors are still there in the morning.
